Israel expands Lebanon offensive against Hezbollah

Israel intensified its offensive in Lebanon on Monday and Tuesday, striking Hezbollah sites and ordering new evacuations in the south as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the campaign would deepen.

The escalation follows cross-border attacks and growing fears that the fighting could widen despite ceasefire claims, making the conflict more dangerous for civilians in Lebanon and northern Israel.

Israeli Perspective

Israeli leaders say the strikes are meant to degrade Hezbollah’s military network and stop drone and rocket attacks on northern Israel. They present the expanded ground and air campaign as a necessary response to what they describe as an ongoing threat.

Hezbollah and Lebanese Side

Hezbollah has portrayed itself as resisting Israeli pressure while the Lebanese side faces repeated evacuation orders and the risk of wider displacement. In Lebanon, the renewed strikes are being seen as a direct threat to towns and villages already living under sharp uncertainty.

  • Hezbollah was founded in the early 1980s during Lebanon’s civil war and Israel’s occupation of southern Lebanon.
  • Southern Lebanon has repeatedly served as a flashpoint in Arab-Israeli wars and ceasefire breakdowns.
  • The Bekaa Valley is also one of Lebanon’s most fertile farming regions.

Israel-Lebanon War

Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a 60-day ceasefire that mandates Israeli troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon while the Lebanese army deploys across all border crossings and the south.
