Israeli forces kill Palestinian baby in occupied West Bank

Israeli forces killed a seven-month-old Palestinian baby and wounded his parents in the Tel Rumeida area near Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Friday, according to Palestinian health officials.

The Israeli military said an initial inquiry found the people in the vehicle were uninvolved civilians and said the incident is under review.

The killing adds to already high tensions in the West Bank, where military raids and settler violence have drawn repeated calls for accountability.

Palestinian Officials

The Palestinian health ministry described the baby’s death as the result of Israeli gunfire and said his parents were wounded in the same shooting. Family members and local officials framed the incident as a fatal attack on civilians in an occupied area.

Israeli Military

The Israeli army said an initial inquiry found that those injured were uninvolved civilians. It said the case is under review and expressed sorrow for harm caused to civilians.

International Response

The British Consulate in Jerusalem said it was shocked and saddened and called for an immediate and transparent investigation. The reaction reflects wider concern over civilian harm and accountability in the West Bank.

  • Hebron is among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
  • Tel Rumeida is close to a site revered in Jewish tradition as the Tomb of the Patriarchs.
  • The West Bank’s political geography is shaped by the Oslo-era division into areas with different levels of control.

Israel-Lebanon War
