Israeli strikes kill eight in south and east Lebanon

Israeli strikes hit eastern Lebanon and the southern city of Tyre on Thursday and early Friday, killing at least eight people according to Lebanon's health ministry and civil defence sources.

The attacks came despite a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war and show how fragile the truce remains along the Lebanon-Israel border.

Lebanon

Lebanese officials described the strikes as deadly violations of the ceasefire, pointing to casualties in both eastern Lebanon and the south. They said the attacks caused civilian deaths and deepened concern that the truce is not holding.

Israel

Israeli authorities have said in past such cases that strikes in Lebanon are aimed at Hezbollah-linked targets and security threats. From that view, the operations are presented as necessary pressure despite the ceasefire framework.

  • Tyre is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
  • Lebanon’s south has often been a flashpoint in conflicts involving Israel and armed groups.
  • Ceasefires in this border area have repeatedly been tested by retaliatory strikes.

Israel-Lebanon War

Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a 60-day ceasefire that mandates Israeli troop withdrawal from southern Lebanon while the Lebanese army deploys across all border crossings and the south.
