SAIC plans first EU car plant in Spain's Galicia

China’s SAIC Motor plans to set up a car factory in Spain’s northwestern region of Galicia, the regional government said on Monday. If completed, it would be the company’s first production facility in the European Union and could deepen Chinese industrial investment in Europe’s auto market.

  • China is the world’s biggest auto market, giving its carmakers scale that many rivals struggle to match.
  • Spain has been one of Europe’s major vehicle-producing countries for decades.
  • Galicia is known for some of Spain’s busiest Atlantic ports.
