Telangana Cabinet consults Karnataka and Kerala on new VBG Ram G act

The Telangana Cabinet is consulting with Karnataka and Kerala state governments to decide on adopting the Central framework, enacting local legislation, or challenging the Union's proposed VBG Ram G act replacing the Mahatra Gandhi employment law.

These consultations aim to explore coordinated legal and political measures among non-BJP ruled states to resist the new federal employment legislation. The outcome will determine whether Telangana pursues Supreme Court intervention or administrative action to protect rural employment guarantees.

  • Karnataka and Kerala are the only two southern states currently ruled by opposition parties to the central BJP government.
  • The Mahatra Gandhi employment act was signed into law in 2005 following the United Progressive Alliance's 2004 election manifesto承诺.
  • Telangana became a separate state from Andhra Pradesh in 2014 after a long political movement for regional identity.
