After 108 days of war, the United States and Iran have announced a preliminary agreement to end the conflict, brokered by Pakistan and expected to be formalized in Geneva on Friday.

The deal mandates the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon, while the Strait of Hormuz reopens under agreed conditions.

The agreement comes after US and Israel launched nearly 900 coordinated strikes in 2026 that killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, triggering massive retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the Middle East.

A ceasefire existed but was repeatedly threatened by incidents like Iran downing a US helicopter in June, before Trump announced the deal on June 14 to end the grinding geopolitical stalemate.
